A sharp snow-streaked peak stands at the centre with ridges of brown rock rolling away either side, a turquoise glacier lake below, and dark conifers running down to patches of old snow. Three riders on horseback pick their way along the trail, small enough to miss on a first look. Thomas Hart Benton rode into the Rockies on horseback in 1964 and painted this soon after.
Sky and lake are almost the same aqua, and the rock folds repeat all the way across, so the treeline is the most useful edge to find early. Finished size 68.6 x 50.8cm.
