Jack Stuppin's Sonoma country, painted in 2011 — a violet mountain under a bank of white cloud, orange hillsides, and vineyards laid out in striped rows of purple, yellow, teal and black, every field outlined in red. A small red-roofed farmhouse sits among the trees and a pale river bends round the bottom corner.
The striped fields more or less sort themselves; the cloud and the sky above it are one long stretch of near-white. Finished size 68.5 x 50.8cm.
The bold, distinct colour blocks of the patchwork fields and strong mountain silhouette provide good visual anchors despite the vibrant complexity.
Colourful river valley with patchwork fields and mountains
