A blue hobnail glass vase lies toppled on its side, flowers spilling out across a dark teal cloth — pink and white roses, magenta carnations, a white calla lily, purple orchids, blue nigella. Eric Wert trained as a scientific illustrator, and behind the arrangement he paints a green ground worked over in gold embroidered scrollwork, thread by thread.
That embroidery is the challenge: one repeating pattern across more than half the picture. Finished size 68 x 51cm.
Rich variety of flower colours against an ornate patterned background provides good visual cues despite the detailed textures.
