Every flower Pieter Brueghel could get hold of has gone into one plain wooden tub — tulips striped red and white, blue irises, lilies, roses, daffodils, and a crown imperial standing right at the top in orange with its tuft of green.
They are packed so tight that a few blooms have escaped and lie on the shelf below. All of it comes out of near-total darkness, so the whites and the reds seem to be lit from somewhere just out of the frame.
Dark background with densely packed flowers of many varieties creates challenging colour and shape differentiation across large areas of black.
