A wicker basket sits on a stone ledge, heaped so full of flowers that half of them have escaped — a tulip lying on its side, two roses tipped out onto the stone, everything else crowding upward against a black so deep the petals seem to float in front of it.

Beside it a little glass vase holds tulips and narcissi. Look along the ledge and there are small insects going about their business, and a butterfly has settled up among the leaves!
