Eric Wert's glass vase cannot hold what is in it. Parrot tulips streaked yellow and red, magenta cockscomb, lilac foxgloves, blue cornflowers and a single orange poppy spill forward over the table edge, with a pale blue hydrangea head slumped at the front. He painted it in 2015 in the Dutch still-life tradition, down to the near-black background and the loose petals dropped on the polished surface.
That dark ground is the work here: a wide band of almost-black carrying only a faint damask pattern. Finished size 64 x 50cm.
Diverse flower colours help differentiate areas, but the dark background and overlapping petals add moderate challenge.
