Old Store at Salem by A.J. Casson – 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Pomegranate)

A cream clapboard village store with green window frames, a mustard door on the upper floor and a rounded white awning over the shopfront — a stove sitting in one window, a barrel in the other. A leaning telegraph pole stands out front, a pale dirt road curves past, orange autumn trees crowd in on the left, and the sky rolls overhead in bands of purple-grey. A.J. Casson painted it in 1931, with the shop shut and dusk coming on.

The banded sky and the broad empty road are big flat expanses; the shopfront and the pole give you a spine to work out from. Finished size 50.8 x 63.5cm
