Totem Poles by Emily Carr – 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Pomegranate)

Carved totem poles rise the full height of the picture — ringed eyes, hooked beaks and bear faces in grey, mauve and rust — standing over a village of small wooden houses with orange and blue gables. Emily Carr painted the scene at Kitseukla in British Columbia and wrote the name across the bottom corner; at the front a dark figure with red-patterned limbs sits on a fallen log, and the sky behind is hazy cream and blue.

The poles give long vertical runs to build early on, though the loose, mottled sky and the green bank at the bottom offer far less to grip. Finished size 50.8 x 63.5cm.
