A horse comes through at full stretch and Umberto Boccioni has painted the speed rather than the animal. Orange and blue break apart across the canvas in long diagonal shards, and somewhere in the middle of them a rider leans forward over the horse's neck, all of it moving at once.
Behind, the houses lean in too — white gables and blue roofs tipping towards the street, as though the whole town had been dragged along in the rush!
Highly abstract Futurist composition with fragmented overlapping forms, chaotic colour mixing, and no clear focal point makes piece identification extremely challenging.
