By 1912 Kandinsky was letting the subject go entirely and painting what he thought music looked like. Shapes surge across the canvas in scarlet, cobalt and yellow with black lines whipping through them, and there are moments where a horse or a hillside almost assembles itself before dissolving again into pure colour.
Colour and line everywhere at once with almost nothing repeating. Finished size 69 x 48cm.
Colour scattered across the whole canvas with no structure to work back from, which makes this one of the hardest thousands.
