Kandinsky is doing what he loves best here, setting shapes loose on a pale grey ground and letting them arrange themselves. A great banded circle hangs in the middle like a wheel mid-turn, yellow spikes fan out beside it, and three black rings float away up in the corner as if they have somewhere to be.
Long curved lines sweep along the bottom, and small windows of pattern sit tucked into the crowd. Everything looks about to move.
The abstract shapes, overlapping organic forms, and wide variety of colours without representational cues make this a challenging puzzle to piece together.
Abstract expressionist composition with dominant curved forms and vivid colours
