Two figures stand wrapped up in each other against a wall of beaten gold, and Klimt has covered them both in pattern — his robe in black and white blocks, hers in great brown spirals with little coloured triangles and flowers scattered through.
Her face rests on his shoulder with her eyes closed and a wreath of blossom in her hair. The gold behind them curls away in whorl after whorl, and a bed of flowers grows up at their feet.
Golden spirals fill the background while the central embracing figure has colourful decorative details that help, but the overall golden tone remains challenging.
