Byng Inlet, Georgian Bay by Tom Thomson – 500 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Pomegranate)

Three pines lean hard to the right, bare red trunks with their dark boughs bunched at the top, against a sky Tom Thomson broke into short horizontal dabs of turquoise, cream and ochre. Deep blue water shows at the left and a shelf of pink and gold granite runs across the bottom, with olive scrub filling the ground between rock and trees. Painted around 1914 on Georgian Bay.

The sky is a quarter of the picture in near-identical strokes and the granite mottles much the same way, so the leaning trunks are the frame to build out from. Finished size 50.8 x 50.8cm
