The snowman's only half built and already there's a queue of assistants – two children in bobble hats, a black dog bouncing round their feet, and a cat who's more interested in the abandoned wheelbarrow. Behind them a cottage sits under a good six inches of snow, smoke curling from the chimney, while a squirrel and a scatter of small birds get on with their own business in the bare branches above.
Down at the front a robin perches on an old fence post next to a pair of hedgehogs curled up together, and the vegetable beds are still lined out under the snow with canes and a watering can left where they were dropped. It's a busy picture but broken into clear patches – snowy roof, dark hedge, red brick, green shed – so there's plenty to sort by colour before you start hunting for the fiddly bits like the robin's feathers or the falling snowflakes.
Good one to do with the poster alongside for reference, especially if you want to keep track of where all the animals have got to.
Plenty of small animal and garden details to pick out, but the snow-covered sections and clear colour blocks give strong sorting clues.
