Dancing in the Moonlight by Lucy Grossmith - 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Gibsons)

A full moon hangs over a snow-covered clearing where the forest has come alive for the night. Two foxes circle each other in the foreground while owls (a barn owl, a long-eared owl, and several others) watch from the trees and swoop overhead. Deer leap across the middle ground, squirrels cling to the pines, and a cluster of small birds lifts from a branch near the top. At the centre of it all, a decorated Christmas tree glows outside a lit log cabin, its warm windows the only hint of human life in an otherwise wild scene.

The illustration is by Lucy Grossmith, and she has packed a remarkable amount into the frame without it ever feeling cluttered. The deep blue-green palette of the night forest makes sorting straightforward in places (sky, trees, snow), but the mid-section, where all the animals converge around the cabin and the tree, will keep you busy. Plenty of small details to hunt for once the borders are in.
