A bighorn ram's face fills the tall centre of this one, its curling horns sweeping out to frame two round scenes. Above: purple peaks, a pine cone, a scrub jay, a mule deer, a swift overhead and a cougar peering out from between the horns. Below: three California quail on pale sand, a prickly pear in pink flower, ocotillo, a fan palm, a desert tortoise, a roadrunner and a monarch butterfly. Charley Harper painted it for the national monument in the California desert.
The pale sand and the ram's tan face are broad flat areas, so the animals are the anchors and the narrow format keeps you working in vertical strips. Finished size 40.6 x 81.3cm.
Dark background with two densely packed circular compositions containing many small geometric animal and plant shapes in Charley Harper's flat style.
California desert wildlife including bighorn sheep, birds, lizards, cacti, and desert plants in two circular vignettes
