A yellow fire hydrant stands dead centre against a green fence, with the whole neighbourhood crowding round it: a floppy-eared hound with a tennis ball, a black-and-white cat, an opossum, a raccoon peering out, a chipmunk mid-run and a grey squirrel at the foot. Charley Harper works in flat geometry, so a cardinal is a red fan of lines and a moth is a white triangle, and he tucks in maple leaves, tulips, a praying mantis, a mushroom and a toy digger along the bottom.

Every creature is a solid colour with a hard edge, so pieces sort themselves by shape; the striped green fence behind them is the only stretch that slows things down. Finished size 45.7 x 61cm.
