Spring by Lawrence Alma-Tadema – 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Pomegranate)
A May Day procession pours down a marble street — children in white with flower crowns carrying baskets of red and yellow blooms, women in dove grey and lilac, men holding tall standards, and crowds leaning over the balconies above with wisteria trailing down. Lawrence Alma-Tadema painted it in 1894, lifting a Victorian English custom wholesale and setting it in ancient Rome.
The finished picture is a tall narrow panel, and the carved white marble filling its upper half has very little colour to sort by. Finished size 81.2 x 40.6cm.
Large areas of similar pale marble tones with many small figures create challenging sections, though the crowd and flowers add some variety.
