Rome at the very end of the day, with the Colosseum lit from within so every arch on the ground floor glows gold and the tiers above go up into the dusk in worn grey stone.
The cobbles out front are empty, still holding a shine, and a row of dark cypresses stands at the far end like a guard of honour. Overhead the sky has gone the colours it only does for about ten minutes — blue behind, pink and apricot cloud drawn across it!
The repeating arched structure of the Colosseum creates similar-looking sections that are challenging to differentiate, with subtle stone colour variations.
