Down on the beach below the Golden Gate Bridge, the tide has just slipped back and left the sand wet enough to hold a red reflection of the tower. Waves are breaking over the rocks, a flock of birds is heading out across the water towards the headland on the far side, and a plane is drawing a thin white line across the blue.
It's taken from right down at sea level, so the great steel arch where the bridge meets the cliffs fills the right-hand side of the picture. Finished size 68 x 48cm.
The red bridge and the dark rocks give strong shapes to build from, but the sky, the sea and the sand are broad areas of similar tone.
