An allegory in chalky watercolour. A crowd in classical drapery crosses a low stone bridge, garlanded and dancing, one figure holding a green globe overhead, another turning a spinning wheel. Beneath the arch a young man poles a boat strewn with rose petals, while a second boat carries a shrouded body with a grey winged figure crouched at the stern. Coral red, cornflower blue and gold, inside a salmon border.
The palette is pale and the figures overlap constantly, so faces and folds of cloth are what you end up sorting by. Finished size 73.7 x 50.8cm.
Pale overlapping figures worked in one narrow range of colour.
