Oarsmen at Chatou by Auguste Renoir – 500 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Pomegranate)

A red-orange skiff drawn up on the grass at Chatou, an oarsman sitting to the oars in a blue-banded boater, and three figures on the bank: a man in a straw hat, a woman in rust-coloured silk holding a folded parasol, and a man in shirtsleeves with his back to us. Beyond them a white sail, more skiffs on the water and a red-roofed house on the far shore. Renoir painted it in 1879, on the stretch of Seine Parisians came out to for the day.

The river takes up half the picture in short blue, white and pink strokes with nothing to fix on — build the bank and the boat first. Finished size 61 x 45.7cm
