There's something very particular about a British canal on a sunny summer's day — the slow pace, the painted narrowboats, the smell of wildflowers, the satisfying clunk of a lock gate. This gorgeous puzzle from Ravensburger's Cosy Café Collection captures all of that in one beautifully packed scene.
Artist Steve Read has absolutely loaded this image with things to spot. In the foreground, foxgloves, pink dog roses and bright yellow blooms tumble over the towpath, and if you look closely there's a butterfly perched among the petals and a rabbit tucked into the grass. A pair of traditional narrowboats sit in the lock — one named Clifford — while a small group of people busy themselves working the lock, chatting on deck, and enjoying the afternoon.
Further back, a red-brick lock keeper's cottage sits behind a cloud of cherry blossom, and swans glide serenely on the upper reach. It's the kind of image where you could spend as long looking at it as you do building it.
With that richly detailed foreground giving way to softer mid-ground tones and a hazy summer canopy above, this is a genuinely satisfying build — plenty of variety to keep you engaged without being punishing. A lovely one for canal enthusiasts, countryside lovers, or anyone who just fancies an hour or two of proper escapism.
Finished size: 70 x 50cm. Suitable for ages 12 and up.
The lush, detailed foreground of mixed wildflowers and foliage provides good sorting variety, but the mid-ground greens and dappled tree canopy share similar tones, creating some moderately tricky areas.
