It's a fine afternoon in the Regency countryside and everyone from Jane Austen's novels seems to have turned out for it! A soldier in a scarlet coat tips his hat to two young ladies, a pair of riders trot past, and a picnic party is laid out on the grass with the tea things, a hamper and a gentleman lying back with his hat in his hand. Around the edge, a ball is in full swing, a letter is being passed along, someone is peeping out of a wardrobe, and a carriage rolls by.
Which novel does each little scene belong to? Fans of Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Northanger Abbey will have fun finding out.
The busy border of tiny vignettes gives plenty of clues, but the soft pastel greens and creams, the lace edging and the large pale central panel contain many similar tones.
