Van Gogh's own room at Arles, painted while he was waiting for Gauguin to arrive. There is a plain wooden bed under a red blanket, two rush chairs, a table with a jug and basin, his pictures hung crooked on the wall, and the whole thing tipped forward at an angle that no room has ever actually been.
Big flat areas of blue, ochre and red with clean edges between them. Finished size 69 x 48cm.
Broad flat colour fields with strong outlines, though the pink floor is a large area of one tone.
