The yellow bedstead with its red blanket, two rush-seated chairs, a jug and basin on a small table, green shutters half open and a row of pictures on the pale blue wall. Van Gogh painted his room at Arles three times; this is the last of them, made in 1889 from the earlier canvases while he was at Saint-Rémy.
The lilac-grey floorboards and the blue walls are wide flat fields where only the direction of the brushstrokes separates one piece from another. Finished size 63.5 x 50.8cm.
Bold distinct colour blocks for walls, floor, bed, and furniture with clear outlines make pieces relatively easy to place.
