A woman reclines among oversized tropical leaves, her gaze tilted upward and her arm resting with easy confidence. She's wearing a richly patterned kimono-style jacket in teal, orange and magenta — the kind of thing you'd wear when you've decided the afternoon belongs entirely to you. The monstera leaves behind her are painted in bold, almost exaggerated greens with pink and yellow cutting through, and the whole composition feels like midday heat without ever being literal about it.
Joanna Pilarczyk's painting style is loose and expressive — blocks of colour that read perfectly from a distance, but up close the brushwork is what makes it interesting. The square format (this is part of Heye's Quadrat range) suits the image well, with the figure centred and the foliage filling every corner.
As a build, the tropical background will keep you on your toes. The greens vary enough to sort, but there's a lot of similar tone across the plant sections, so it's worth tackling the figure and her jacket first — those colours are distinct and give you solid anchor points early on.
While the central figure provides clear anchor points, the tropical foliage background contains large areas of similar green tones with subtle variation, making sorting and placing those sections genuinely tricky.
