Three figures in profile, drawn in thick black line and filled with flat blocks of red, blue, green and purple, their eyes ringed in yellow. Norval Morrisseau runs the forms into one another in his Woodland style — hands, birds and divided circles linking figure to figure — over ochre at the top and deep teal below, with a yellow border round the whole picture and his name signed in Cree syllabics in the corner.
The black outlines make natural fences to work inside, but each colour block is a broad flat area, so sorting comes down to which side of a line a piece belongs on. Finished size 50.8 x 63.5cm.
Bold black outlines and large flat areas of vivid colour create clearly defined shapes that are easy to distinguish and match.
