A grey-haired man in a pale grey suit stands with his back turned on a tiled gallery floor, straw hat and umbrella held behind him, studying a wall-sized drip painting in red, yellow, blue and green. Norman Rockwell made it for a Saturday Evening Post cover in 1962, and painted the abstract canvas himself, flicking the paint on in Pollock's manner before adding the figure.
Half the sheet is that splattered canvas with no repeat to key on, and the suit and the wall either side are flat and near-toneless. Finished size 63.5 x 50.8cm.
