The melting watches, draped over a branch and a block and that strange sleeping face down on the sand, with the cliffs of Dali's own coastline glowing away in the distance. One of the watches is covered in ants and nobody has ever entirely explained why.
Half the picture sits in deep shadow and the other half in hard clear light. Probably the most recognisable painting of the twentieth century.
