Christmas Limited Edition No.30 - Santa takes a break - 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Ravensburger)

Santa has put his feet up. He is asleep in a red armchair by the fire, a glass of milk still in one hand and a plate of biscuits on the stool beside him, a cat on his lap and a brown and white dog sitting at his boots, watching him. Round the rug are the night's deliveries: wrapped parcels, a rocking horse, a toy train, a teddy and a toy puppy. Two children in nightclothes peer round the banister, and a reindeer looks in at the window on the right.

Behind the chair a tall window opens onto a snowy village by the water under a full moon, with a lighthouse, boats and a snowman on the lawn. A Christmas tree hung with baubles fills the right-hand side.

As a puzzle it sorts into clear regions. The moonlit village is the easiest start: cool blues and snowy whites that stand apart from everything else. Santa's suit, the fire and the tree each give a solid block of one colour to build out from. The slow work is the floor. Dozens of parcels in different papers, the toys and the crowded shelves on the left break into similar reds, greens and golds, and the baubles along the top repeat, so expect to test pieces there rather than spot them.
