Blackberries, elderberries and rosehips fill every corner of this collage, gathered from Jill Barklem's Brambly Hedge books. Mice in tiny bonnets and waistcoats climb through the hedgerow, tuck into store cupboards stacked with jam, and huddle by lantern light as the nights draw in. Each little vignette is lifted straight from the pages of Autumn Story, so fans of the books will spot familiar moments dotted throughout.

It's a fiddly one to build. The hedge itself is a tangle of leaves, berries and twigs in similar autumn tones, so you'll want good light and a bit of patience for those sections, while the smaller framed scenes around the edge give you an easier way in. A full-size poster comes in the box for reference, which helps no end when you're trying to work out which mouse belongs where.

A nice choice for a quiet autumn afternoon, and one that would sit well framed afterwards given how much detail is packed into the artwork.

About this puzzle

4/5
Hard

The hedge and foliage sections use many similar autumn tones and repeated berry and leaf shapes, making sorting tricky despite the clearer smaller vignettes around the border.
