A bare tree with a dark plum trunk, its branches hung with hundreds of small circular mandalas instead of fruit — tangerine, lime, turquoise, magenta, gold, each one patterned differently. The sky behind fades from deep blue at the top to pale duck-egg at the bottom, and a blue patterned border runs round the edge. Mandalas have been Paul Heussenstamm's subject for most of his working life.
No two mandalas are alike, which makes them quick to place; the lower third is plain graduated sky and takes far longer. Finished size 61 x 45.7cm.
Many small intricate mandala circles with similar shapes but varied colours against a uniform blue background make sorting challenging.
