Four people behind curved glass under the Phillies sign — a woman in red with auburn hair, the man in a grey fedora beside her, a lone drinker with his back turned, and the counterman in white bent down between two steel coffee urns. Edward Hopper painted it in 1942 and left the street outside completely empty.
That emptiness is the difficulty: the green pavement, the dark shopfront opposite and the pale interior wall are three broad areas with almost nothing in them. Finished size 68 x 51cm.
Large dark areas of the night exterior and muted interior tones with limited colour variation make this a challenging puzzle.
