Nightlife by Archibald Motley – 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Pomegranate)

Gone one in the morning in a Chicago cabaret: chrome stools along a bar backed by rows of blue, green and amber bottles, a woman in red with a pearl necklace and a mint-green hat, another in bright green, a dancer kicking out in peach, and a packed floor behind. Archibald Motley Jr. painted the whole room in 1943 under a single burgundy light.

That one light source flattens the palette, and the empty floor across the lower left is a wide sweep of near-identical burgundy. Finished size 68 x 51cm.
