A lilac house with a red roof, curved gables and green shutters, seen down a white path between red gateposts. Darlene Kulig painted it after a trip to Barbados and let the garden take over: outsized banana leaves and palm fronds, an orange frangipani, pink and crimson blooms, and yellow dots of light scattered across a navy sky.
The leaves are flat blocks of one colour and the pale path carries no detail at all, so both are slow going. Finished size 63.5 x 63.5cm.
Bold contrasting colours and distinct shapes help differentiate areas, though the dark background and dense foliage add moderate challenge.
Colourful tropical colonial building with lush gardens
