A bull moose in dark brown stands in a birch wood, his palmate antlers reaching right across the sheet, with two grey wolves staring out — one above him, one framed between his legs. Charley Harper sets the white trunks in vertical bars against gold ochre, marks each one with black eye-shaped knots, and scatters yellow leaves, a flicker, a blue jay, a red squirrel and a monarch through the gaps. Another of his National Park Service posters, this one for the wilderness island in Lake Superior.
The ochre background is a large flat expanse, but the birch trunks run top to bottom and give you strong vertical lines to hang everything else on. Finished size 73.7 x 50.8cm.
The geometric minimalist style with repeating vertical birch tree patterns and similar golden tones makes many pieces look alike.
