A shaggy white monster is sprawled across the bed, phone in hand, hearts drifting upward like soap bubbles — while outside the window, the building is very much on fire. It doesn't seem to have been noticed. The gap between what's happening on screen and what's happening in the world is the whole joke, and it lands.
Johan Potma's Zozoville style packs a lot of character into a single scene. The bedroom wall carries a portrait of a suspiciously familiar fuzzy face, a decorative lamp hangs above, and the bed's floral quilt gives the whole thing a cosy domestic feel that makes the chaos outside even funnier. The warm pinkish tones throughout tie the scene together and make for a satisfying build — there's enough variety across the fur, the furnishings, and the background to keep things moving, but the large areas of soft texture will keep you on your toes.
1,000 pieces. Artwork by Dutch artist Johan Potma for the Zozoville series, published by Heye.
The large areas of soft, similarly-toned white fur and the warm pink background walls create tricky sections, but the bold teal phone, floral quilt, and window fire provide clear anchor points.
