A white horse gallops out of a swarm of doves, half animal and half machine: its mane a heap of brass gears, spools and bells, its hindquarters opening onto clockwork, silver vertebrae and a red beaded pouch, its tail a spray of gold wire. Heidi Taillefer trails black ironwork from the bridle and hangs an olive silk cocoon on the dark panel behind.
The doves are the difficulty: hundreds of small white birds on pale blue, all much the same shape. Finished size 68.6 x 50.8cm.
Intricate mechanical details, many small white doves and a mix of textures across the surreal composition make piece placement challenging.
