A skull assembled entirely from plants — green leaves for the cranium and jaw, a moth's wings across the brow, marigolds in the cheekbones, pink roses in the eye sockets, two teal parrots curled at the temples. Tino Rodriguez and Virgo Paraiso ring it with sunflowers, poppies, irises and dandelion clocks on black, goldfinches perched at either side and butterflies and a dragonfly drifting past.
The black ground is a large field of near-identical pieces, and the image is close to symmetrical, so the left and right halves are easily confused. Finished size 50.8 x 68.6cm.
The central skull provides strong structure, and the colourful flowers contrast well against the black background, though dark edges are tricky.
