Jerusalem stone, warm as honey, piled block on block into a great round church with arched windows all the way round and a dome sitting on top of them. A slender tower stands beside it, and a palm leans in from the left of the picture.
Down at street level the lane is empty and in shadow, the way old cities go in the middle of the afternoon, with the sun still full on the walls above.
The uniformly sandy-coloured stone walls and blocks create large areas of similar texture and tone, making piece placement challenging despite the clear architectural forms.
