The whole outside wall of the church is a painting — rank upon rank of saints wrapped right around the stone, still bright after all this time under a big summer sky. The roof comes down low and wide over them like a hat pulled over the eyes, and a little tower sits up behind with its shingles going silver in the light.
Visitors drift past the porch in ones and twos, dwarfed by it, and the blue behind all those figures is the deepest colour in the picture.
The richly painted exterior murals provide varied colours and detail, while the building's distinct shape and surrounding greenery offer helpful orientation cues.
