Seven or eight faces crowd along the canvas shoulder to shoulder, every one of them cut into flat planes of teal, orange and deep blue, with black lines running between them like the leading in a window.
The eyes are what hold you — one green, one violet, one amber, each pair looking off somewhere slightly different. Red lips, a sweep of copper hair, and the crowd carries on right off the edge of the picture on both sides.
The cubist fragmentation of faces into geometric planes of similar bold colours, with overlapping forms and angular lines throughout, makes distinguishing piece placement very challenging.
