Ten French chromolithographs of the balloon age, set in two rows. Two aeronauts in top hats wave from a wicker basket at six thousand metres; Garnerin drops away under a parachute; a crowd fills a street for a launch; Madame Blanchard's balloon comes down burning onto a red-tiled roof; Zambeccari and his crew cling to a half-sunk envelope in the sea. Engraved portrait medallions sit between the panels, and the title runs across the cream foot.
Each panel has its own wide patch of blue sky, and once separated they all look much alike — sort into panels before you sort into pictures. Finished size 73.7 x 50.8cm.
Ten panels of similar blue sky, all edged with the same cream border.
