Purissima by Joseph Stella – 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Pomegranate)

A crowned figure stands against a pale mint halo in a grey-blue robe, her mantle falling to the ground in wide stripes of coral, rose and gold. Joseph Stella painted her in 1927 flanked by two white egrets, with pink lilies and orchids overhead, fan palms, citrus branches, and a blue bay behind where Vesuvius sends up a plume of smoke.

The robe is embroidered with tiny flowers, birds and insects that give plenty to work with, but those long smooth colour stripes carry almost no detail. Finished size 51 x 68cm.
