Pacita Abad remakes Liberty as a brown-skinned woman in a gold crown, torch raised, robed in patchwork stitched with zigzags, crosses, dots and rickrack. Rays fan out behind her to every edge in pink, teal, purple, yellow and green — the work is sewn and padded canvas, not only paint.
Those rays are long strips of near-flat colour running to the border, which makes the outer half harder than the figure. Finished size 50.8 x 73.7cm.
The radiating colourful rays and patterned textile-style figure offer good colour differentiation, though the many similar stripe sections add moderate challenge.
