A tall, narrow woodland stacked with birds in Charley Harper's flat geometry — a red-bellied woodpecker striped like a zebra, a scarlet tanager, a blue jay mid-panel, a speckled thrasher, a turkey's blue-and-red head, and an owl's face staring out of the bottom edge. Green leaves, a nest, a snail and a yellow moth fill the gaps, a waterfall drops through the base, and orange lichened bark frames both sides.
The dark maroon centre panel is almost bare and the mottled bark strips repeat down each edge, so the birds are the quick part. Finished size 81.3 x 45.7cm
The dark background with many similarly-shaped geometric bird forms and dense foliage creates challenging colour separation and pattern recognition.
