The last of the light is going out over Hong Kong and the whole sky has turned gold and bruised purple above the towers. A wooden junk comes across the harbour with her red sail up and a yellow pennant snapping at the masthead, unhurried, while behind her the signs are already lit and the office blocks are climbing into the cloud.
The water carries every one of those lights back in long broken streaks.
The dramatic skyline with distinct skyscrapers provides clear reference points, but the water and moody sky create large areas of similar tones.
