Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady: Spring - 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Cobble Hill)

Every inch of this box front is labelled, botanist-style, in neat copperplate script. A dormouse curls up in its nest of woven grass, a rabbit noses through primroses, and skylarks and chaffinches perch among hawthorn blossom and bluebells. Look closer and there are speckled eggs, a frog, brimstone and orange-tip butterflies, all set against soft cream backgrounds that let the botanical detail do the work.

It's a puzzle for anyone who likes their nature illustration proper and old-fashioned, in the style of a pressed-flower nature journal rather than a modern wildlife photo. The pale background makes for a genuinely tricky build despite the busy detail, as so many of the flowers and creatures share the same soft palette. A mini poster is included in the box, handy for checking where each butterfly or bird is meant to sit.

Good one to have on the table through the spring months, worked on slowly while you spot each named plant and creature in turn.
