Herb Garden by Jane Shasky - 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle (Cobble Hill)

Every jar, label and seed packet in this one has been hand-lettered, right down to the little tips scribbled on the mint and variegated sage cards. Mason jars of chives and lavender sit alongside a battered watering can, terracotta pots, a wooden birdhouse and a garden ladder stacked with cuttings, all held together by a hand-painted "HERBS" sign and "GARDEN" lettering running along the bottom edge.

Jane Shasky's artwork is the sort that rewards sorting by colour rather than by picture - clusters of butterflies, hummingbirds and pressed flowers break up what could otherwise be a sea of green stems and brown terracotta. The seed packet illustrations and handwriting on the labels give plenty of small, distinct pieces to hunt for once the border's done.

A good one to have on the table if you spend more time in the garden than the kitchen, or the other way round.
